July 22, 2008

Apple today announced it has sold over one million iPhone 3Gs and users have downloaded more than 10 million applications, just three days after its launch.

The iPhone 3G is now available in 21 countries - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the U.S. - and will go on sale in France on July 17.

"The iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend," said Steve Jobs, Apple CEO. "It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world."

The new iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone plus 3G networking that is twice as fast, built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs over 800 third party applications available through the new App Store.

How to Copy Movies To iPhone

July 19, 2008

At this point it's not possible to download movies directly to your Iphone or copy them to Iphone directly from DVD etc, so you will need to first transfer them onto your computer to get them ready. To find out more about copying movies to iPhone, check out the rest of this article. Normal DVDs are not in the correct format to copy over to your iPod, so they will need to be converted to MP4 before you can make the transfer. This is best done by saving the DVDs to your hard drive in MP4 format.

In order to make the transfer from DVD to your iPhone, you'll need a computer, a connecting lead between the computer and the iPhone, and some “ripping” software to rip the movies from the DVD and save them to your hard drive. Most ripping software can convert files to MP4 at the same time as saving the files.

As soon as the files are on the computer and in the correct format, you are then ready to start copying them to your iPhone. From there, all you need to do is scan the files into Itunes, and then they should be automatically transferred over whenever you next sync the iPhone with iTunes.

All this assumes that you already own the movies you want to transfer on DVD. If you don't however, there are still a couple of alternatives. These days on the internet if you know where to look you can find some very reliable download sites, that will give you access to an unlimited about of files for a one off price. As well as movies, you can also get games and music for your Iphone. Sites like this offer excellent value for money.

They aren't to be confused however with the shady peer to peer sites or torrent sites which many people use for their downloads-sites like this are illegal and will probably give you some viruses too. Do you really want to watch the Bourne Supremacy bad enough to go to jail for it? Sites like this are full of viruses and malware etc, so if you have ever used one it's a good idea to get your antivirus updated and to run a full check on your computer.

Apple iPhone 3G VS Samsung i900 Omnia

July 19, 2008

I’m sure by now you have all heard about the long awaited Apple iPhone 3G. The main selling point of the new 3G iPhone is that it is faster and cheaper than the original iPhone. Another plus is that it will be available in Apples traditional white colour scheme as well as a standard black version.

The 3G iPhone fixes most of the annoying features of the original iPhone such as extended the battery life, including GPS and mapping application, HSDPA makes the handset 3.5G and including GPRS and EDGE support. Unfortunately there are some features that have stayed the same, which could have easily been upgraded. The camera is still 2 mega pixels, the screen is still a 320 x 480 pixel panel, and the battery is still not user removable resulting in a trip to an Apple store for a new battery! Features such as Bluetooth and WiFi have remained the same.

If you are thinking of purchasing the new 3G iPhone, you should also take a look at the Samsung i900 Omnia. The Samsung Omnia also known as the SGH-i900 was announced on the same day as the 3G iPhone, it is very similar and will be going head to head against the 3G iPhone.

Samsung i900 Omnia has a 5 mega pixel camera which is significantly better than the iPhone’s 2 mega pixels, it also has an FM radio, TV output, stereo Bluetooth and expandable memory which are all features the iPhone lack. Both phones have GPS, WiFi connectivity, HSDPA high speed data, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth and USB 2.0. The i900 measures in at 112 x 56.9 x 12.5mm and weighs 127g, the 3G iPhone measures in slightly larger and heavier at 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm and 133g.

From the specification it seems that the Samsung Omnia will prove to be tough competition for the iPhone. Only time will tell which mobile phone will be the most popular.

iPhone 3G Launch Date Confirmed

June 10, 2008

We all suspected it, but now it is confirmed: someone very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch has told me that Apple will announce their new model at the WWDC Keynote on June 9th. The second-generation iPhone will be available worldwide right after the launch (the worldwide release date is July 11, starting at $199) and not at year's end, as previously thought. The new model will also herald new sales policies in some countries.

In Spain, for example, the 3G iPhone will be available for sale at the June 18th (according to our sources, the release date was changed at the last moment by Apple, and it's now July 11) grand opening of Telefonica's megastore—an Apple Store-like shop located in the company's historical building in Madrid's Gran Vía— with nationwide availability the next day or after a few hours. The other European countries with iPhone availability will have similar launch schedules.

According to another source involved in the launch, the 3G iPhone will no longer be available at a fixed price point—at least in some countries, and its launch will also bring new sales policies, although these have not been completely specified yet.

The move is a logical step, since the iPhone has clearly solidified its position as the cellphone to beat during the last 12 months, and companies in the cutthroat European cellphone market need to use it as an incentive to capture clients aggressively.

This most probably means the new 3G iPhone will be integrated in the usual marketing systems of carriers, with point-based trade-ups, discounts for carrier switchers and other service-based subvention packages.
